2 websites built for Liberty Engineering in Hamburg

May 27, 2011GeorgeCompleted Websites, Custom Websites, Hamburg, NY, May, 2011, Tom's Graphics0 Comment

We designed and built LibertyAutomated.com during this past week and a half. It didn’t take us very long to complete because the owner provided specific details and his own images to insert. Tom designed the header graphic and basic layout. We made this site HTML5 compliant. We also departed from the HTML ‘table’ for a […]

Universal error message handler created

May 27, 2011GeorgeCustom web components, Custom Websites, May, 20110 Comment

PHP does a nice job of including files within files on the server before they are viewed in a browser.  If there are standard header/footer files to include, I can use the same universal error message handler file and the same lines of code in the .htaccess file to redirect all errors to this one […]

Photography and more stylizing for bulldog website

May 27, 2011GeorgeBuffalo, NY, Custom Websites, May, 2011, Pending Websites, Tom's Graphics, Tom's Photography0 Comment

They requested Tom’s photography for BabcockBulldogs.com recently.  He took one of the few not-so-rainy days this month to meet with the owners and their dogs at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo. We then applied some of the photos to the header graphics of the site.  Most of the photography will be used in the content […]

Dividing text into columns with PHP script

May 13, 2011GeorgeBuffalo, NY, Custom web components, May, 2011, Programming0 Comment

I prefer to display text so that it can be read easily, as a book.  Naturally, web pages stretch the text across the entire width of the column, which is usually too wide for comfortable reading. Books are divided into narrower columns so you don’t lose your place when you get to the end of […]

Oldtimebaptist.com rebuilt today with PHP

May 11, 2011GeorgeCompleted Websites, Hamburg, NY, May, 20110 Comment

Oldtimebaptist.com has taken many different forms over the years, by many designers/maintainers.  When we re-did it graphically a few years ago we didn’t focus on complete validation of the code. The code is now valid on every page according to its !DOCTYPE, and the very structure of the site has been streamlined. CSS now efficiently […]

Custom contact form installed on ETVFC.org

May 9, 2011GeorgeCompleted Websites, Custom web components, May, 20110 Comment

The owner of ETVFC.org requested a contact form through which he could receive e-mail.  We placed the link to it on the About Us page. The form elements have CSS modified designs: border background background shadow effect text color send button

W3C Markup Validation Service

May 9, 2011GeorgeMay, 2011, Miscellaneous0 Comment

The W3C Markup Validation Service is a wonderfully useful tool for checking for syntax errors in web pages.  Dreamweaver doesn’t even go to such great lengths to criticize my work. I was put at ease when I used it to analyze Google.com: It detected 36 errors and 3 warnings!  I knew their developers were over-paid! […]

Hindi characters allowed in WordPress on friend’s website

May 8, 2011GeorgeMay, 2011, Miscellaneous0 Comment

I modified WordPress’ MySQL Database where the structure called for a text field, which was default set for ‘Latin-1 Swedish,’ I changed each instance to ‘utf8-bin.’ Also, I inserted a Google transliterate script to allow anyone to comment in Nepalese characters by typing the English transliteration. http://hamrobuffalo.com

Preloader installed on our home page

May 3, 2011GeorgeMay, 2011, Miscellaneous0 Comment

A preloader certainly makes a site more user-friendly to those with slower connections.  I made this custom loader.swf a separate file from the main flash video, and gave it a transparent background by using the “wmode value=transparent” parameter setting for the flash object.  I used our logo design with one of the bottom bars as […]
